Lighting - Foundation Portfolio
Lighting:
We are using a combination of different types of lighting in our film. Different types of lighting will be used in certain moments to create or aid in evoking emotion or building tension.
This image displays natural lighting. Our location (my house) has a balcony as well as glass stretching from ceiling to floor which will allow an open and "insecure" atmosphere and allow for natural light to penetrate the room and show time of day, which is symbolic in our film, conveying the unnerving and mysterious nature of our film.
Above are examples of chiaroscuro. This type of lighting plays on bold light and dark areas which is exactly what we need to create an eerie tone around our antagonist. Our antagonist will have moments in the film where he is isolated from the group, so chiaroscuro will help and enable me to portray emotions of mystery, suspense and a level of depth when I am editing.
Above is low/ambient lighting. This type of lighting is slightly more uplifting in contrast to the majority of our film which will be shot with low/natural lighting. This type of lighting will be useful for us to create a contrasting mood from the giddy party scene and sharply transition into the more sinister moments of the film. We are aiming for harsh and noticeable transitions to keep a balanced level of suspense throughout the film and to emphasise the "unknown" nature of our film.
